What is Fieldwork Service?

MDANZ Fieldwork Service provides one-on-one, person-centered support to help individuals and families maintain independence, quality of life, and connection to their communities.

Delivered through our regional branches, our Fieldworkers are empathetic professionals who deeply understand neuromuscular conditions and the complex New Zealand health and disability sectors. Whether you need help applying for funding, accessing specialized equipment, or simply want someone to talk to who understands, your local Fieldworker is here for you.

System navigation & advocacy


  • Help navigating Whaikaha Ministry of Disabled People, ACC, or Health NZ systems

  • Support attending assessment meetings and medical appointments

  • Self-advocacy guidance to help you speak up for your needs

Equipment, housing & mobility


  • Advice on acquiring specialized equipment and assistive technology

  • Guidance on home modifications and accessible housing options

  • Connecting with local mobility and transport services

Life transitions & school/work


  • Support for children transitioning into early childhood or school

  • Navigating workplace adjustments and career changes

Whānau & Emotional Support

Who can access the service?

  • MDANZ Members: Anyone living with a diagnosed neuromuscular condition covered by MDANZ.

  • Whānau & Primary Carers: Support extends to parents, partners, and family members supporting someone with a condition.

  • Cost: The Fieldwork Service is provided completely free of charge through our regional branch network.
