Emergency Medical Alert Cards

Critical safety when seconds count

In an emergency, first responders and hospital staff need immediate, accurate information about your neuromuscular condition. Carrying an MDANZ Alert Card ensures doctors know exactly what treatments to use and which medications to strictly avoid.

Why carrying an Alert Card is essential

Neuromuscular conditions carry unique physiological risks during medical emergencies that standard hospital protocols might miss. An Alert Card speaks for you when you can’t, alerting medical teams to:

Anesthetic precautions

Certain muscle relaxants and inhaled anaesthetics (like succinylcholine) can trigger life-threatening complications in specific neuromuscular conditions.

Respiratory & oxygen care

Crucial guidance on safe oxygen levels and non-invasive ventilation (BiPAP or cough assist) during acute distress.

Steroid regimens & meds

Warnings regarding daily corticosteroid use to prevent acute adrenal crisis during illness, stress, or emergency procedures.

Direct emergency contacts

Direct phone numbers for your specialist consultant, neuromuscular clinic, primary GP, and emergency whānau contacts.
